When God Has You Waiting

When God Has You Waiting

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of the Christian life. We know God is faithful, but when our prayers seem unanswered and our timelines stretch longer than expected, doubt can creep in.

If we’re honest, most of us want God to move now. But often, God chooses to work in the waiting before He works through the breakthrough.

The Bible Is Full of Waiting

From Genesis to Revelation, God’s people have always had to wait:

  • Abraham waited decades for the son God promised.
  • Joseph waited in prison for years before stepping into his calling.
  • Israel waited 400 years for deliverance from Egypt—and another 40 in the wilderness.
  • The disciples waited three days between the cross and the resurrection.

God doesn’t waste those seasons. They are where faith is forged.

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.”
— Isaiah 40:31

Why Does God Make Us Wait?

The presentation reminds us that God’s delays are never without purpose. Waiting seasons are:

  • Refining Seasons – God uses the time to shape our character.
  • Trust-Building Seasons – We learn to rely on Him instead of ourselves.
  • Preparation Seasons – God is setting up people, places, and circumstances for what’s ahead.
  • Alignment Seasons – He’s aligning our hearts with His will.

Sometimes, what feels like nothing happening is actually everything coming together—just not in our view yet.

How to Wait Well

Waiting doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means leaning in to God’s presence and staying faithful where you are.

Here are a few ways to wait well:

  1. Stay in Prayer – Keep the conversation with God open and honest.
  2. Keep Serving – Be faithful with what’s in front of you, even if it feels small.
  3. Anchor in Scripture – Let God’s promises keep your heart steady.
  4. Guard Against Bitterness – Disappointment can harden your heart if you let it.
  5. Choose Worship Over Worry – Praise shifts your focus from the delay to the Deliverer.

Trusting God’s Timing

God’s timing often looks nothing like ours. He’s never early, never late—always right on time.

When Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick, He waited two more days before going to him (John 11). To the disciples, that seemed unloving. But Jesus knew there was a greater miracle on the other side of the delay.

In the same way, your waiting may feel like God has forgotten—but He hasn’t. He’s writing a story you can’t yet see.

Final Thought

The waiting room is not a punishment—it’s an invitation to deeper trust.

So if you find yourself in a season of waiting, remember: God is working behind the scenes. He is preparing you, aligning circumstances, and shaping your heart for what’s next.

When the moment comes, you’ll see that the wait was worth it.
